About Us

Nuccia, owner of Gelatissimo, developed her passion for gelato when she was just a little girl in Como, Italy. Since then, it has been a dream of hers to open a gelateria of her own. She began learning the artistry of gelato making from her father-in-law, and after moving to the U.S., she quickly realized that there were not many authentic gelaterias around, something she deeply loved about Italy. Gelatissimo became her opportunity to bring authentic gelato to the U.S. and live out her dream of owning a gelateria. Nuccia loves to give back to the community by catering and donating to local events in New Canaan.

What is the difference between gelato and ice cream?
Gelato, being made from milk rather than heavy cream, contains significantly less fat than ice cream. Gelato is churned much slower than ice cream when being made, leaving a consistency that is more dense and rich compared to ice cream. Gelato is also served at a temperature warmer than ice cream in order to keep the texture intact.
